Douglas Milliken

The Bastards

“Some friends walked me home from the bar the other night. We cut through a construction site to my neigborhood. Above the parked crane and creaking scaffolding, the sky opened wide; the ground crunched icily beneath out feet, and as I felt my friends’ company skid around me–my belly warm with beer–I was pretty certain that this was it. This was all that mattered. Snow crunching and intangible warmth.” Douglas Milliken lives and works in Portland, Maine.
